Know the site
Establish the facts. Measure and locate all existing features to create an accurate base plan.

Record existing conditions. Document structures, vegetation, materials, access, views, soil, drainage, climate, etc.
2) Site Inventory
Interpret and evaluate. Consider the significance of what exists. Problems? Opportunities? Decisions!

Add Elements & Materials
Integrate walls, fences, structures, paving, water, and other features that shape the garden.
Design the Planting
Select plants for structure, seasonal interest, texture, scale, and site conditions.
Refine & Document
Develop the design into a clear plan that can be built and enjoyed.
